It was the best of times, it was the worst of times when I came across the website called Art of the Title, which shares and discusses the title/credit sequences from films and television.
Best of times because it is an astonishing source of creative art and inspiration.
Worst of times because of, well, time. I could sit at my computer all day losing myself in the site's filmic snippets and the context site founder Lola Landekic provides for them.
The image in this post is a glimpse of the titling of AppleTV's 2019 series Dickinson. Juxtaposing lines from Dickinson's work with a changing array of vintage images, the sequence is an absolute marvel: a tiny film in itself and proof that historical images and contemporary aesthetics can be seamlessly combined.
